Introduction

The weather is a big part of everyone's life. It affects everything we do and everything we wear. In order to do these properly we, ourselves, must take an interest in the weather to function properly. The weather has an impact on us all and the sooner we learn about it the quicker we can learn to use it to our advantage.

Web Activities

Water Cycle
  1. Watch the movie on the water cycle and find words you don't understand..
  2. Where at home have you seen evaporation, condensation and precipitation?
  3. Draw your own flow chart to show the water cycle.
 
Climate
  1. What is the climate like in your part of the world?
  2. What would be the difference between the clothes you wear, to the clothes someone in the Anatartic Circle would wear?
  3. In which climate would you like to live? Give your reasons why.
 
Clouds
  1. What type of cloud would you like to see the most?
  2. Which clouds affect you the most?
  3. Draw the sky with a storm using the correct cloud types.
 
Wind
  1. What would the wind today rate on the scale?
  2. What are three sports/activites that need wind to be a fresh breeze or stronger?
  3. Draw a picture of a windy day and give it a rating.
 
Predicting Weather
  1. What is one instrument used to predict the weather?
  2. What instruments can you use to predict weather at home?
  3. How could you predict the weather without the use of technology?
 
Thunder and Lightning
  1. What comes first, thunder or lightning?
  2. What are some of the ways you know a storm is coming?
  3. What would happen to the tree in the picture if it was really struck with lightning?
 
Create your own hurricane
  1. Create the weakest and strongest hurricane possible.
  2. Do you think it is possible for a hurricane to hit your part of the world? Why/why not?
  3. What do you think would happened when Camille hit those islands?

Conclusion

By now the students should have a basis to continue their study of the weather. This new found knowledge should enable them to understand the weather that is capable of occurring in their area and harness a true appreciation of how it can affect their lives.
