What are the three Rs?  Are they 'reading', 'riting and 'rithmatic ' or 'reduce, reuse and recycle'?  What has this question go to do with me anyway?  Look at the following link and answer the questions below.  This should help you to understand what the question has got to do with you and how you can help Earth's environment.  Go right ahead.

  1. Why was this town once called ‘Dumptown'?
  2. Name two things which Dumptowners did to spoil their town.
  3. What happened when:  (a) the garbage heap grew;  (b) the garbage caught fire;  (c) the garbage was moved?
  4. Name three ways in which the residents reduced waste.
  5. How did Dumptowners reduce hazardous waste?
  6. Go to the Community Warehouse and into the Materials Recovery Centre.  What happens to waste here?  Name three items which are recycled from here.
  7. Go to the Community Warehouse.  How are pets recycled?
  8. Go to Widget Manufacturing Co.  The people who work here carpool.  How does this help the atmosphere?  Look inside the factory to find your answer.
  9. When you visited the house with the swimming pool, what tips for recycling did you pick up (name two)?
