RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Students                 Teachers               Parents                Staff and Volunteer Helpers

Beenleigh State School is bound by the legislative and policy requirements of Education Queensland. These requirements are outlined in the Department of Education Manual and Education Act. The major requirements regarding student behaviour are for all schools to:

·      act to ensure a safe and supportive environment – foster mutual respect

·      develop a school Behaviour Management Plan and to foster student responsibility for their behaviour

·      act to promote inclusive and equitable education for all

·      to provide a stimulating and motivating curriculum in accordance with Education Guidelines

The Beenleigh State School Behaviour Management Plan is designed to promote good behaviour which is conducive to learning. The main responsibility rests with individual teachers.

Final responsibility rests with the Principal. The Principal has the final decision/responsibility for all serious misbehaviours. The most serious consequence for serious misbehaviour is suspension/exclusion. Suspensions up to 5 days are at the discretion of the Principal. All suspensions over 5 days and suspension pending exclusion are most serious (and rare) and require Executive Director or Director General decision making. The DOEM requirements which cover student disciplinary absences are to be adhered to.

Beenleigh State School maintains records of all student behaviour issues where Planning Room and/or administration involvement occurs. Parents are informed/involved in all suspension decisions. Parents are informed of significant Planning Room and administration referrals.
